Madrid 7s International Tournament – 2021

In February 2021, with the suspension of the World Sevens Series from March 2020, KiwiHouse was appointed by the FER and World Rugby to organize and run a two-week International Sevens Tournament.

The Madrid 7s International Tournament was the first international competition played after the sporting break caused by COVID and served as a pre-Olympic tournament.

12 teams were hosted, 6 men’s and 6 women’s, including teams from the United States, Argentina, Kenya, France, Russia, Chile, Poland and Portugal, in addition to the Spanish teams. The high level of the tournament allowed the teams to get back into the rhythm of the competition.

Following the COVID protocols established by both the Spanish Government and World Rugby, KiwiHouse was responsible for creating different bubbles in which the teams could live and train for two weeks with a low risk of contagion.

The Pumas 7s won both rounds of the men’s tournament, while in the women’s tournament it was the Russians who topped the podium.

After the tournament, which had no public due to COVID restrictions, an independent media company valued the global coverage of the tournament at 4.7 million euros.
