Clinic Programme

Elite New Zealand Rugby (NZR) coaches with NZR Certification will share their insights and know-how as to what makes the All Blacks the world´s number one rugby team.

The All Blacks Clinic Granada is aimed at rugby players both boys and girls born between 2000- 2004.

Four accomplished coaches/players from New Zealand Rugby will be joined by 4 Spanish coaches/players to deliver an intensive 5 day clinic.

Training will be given in both English and Spanish and players will be split into age and ability and preferred position.

The clinic is full immersion with players expected to arrive on Sunday 14th July before 17:00 and depart on Friday 19th July after 17.00. As it is a full immersion clinic, all players will stay on the C.A.R de Sierra Nevada in double rooms and all meals are included.

On Sunday night there will be a welcome dinner for players to start getting to know each other and coaches. On Monday, each player will be evaluated on individual skills. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be dedicated to improving individual skills. On Thursday, the training will evolve to functional roles in the team to obtain game continuity. On Friday everything that has been learned will come together as a team. Friday afternoon delivery of diplomas, farewells and departure

Session on Nutrition

The role of nutrition in enhancing rugby performance is being increasingly appreciated by players as it can complement natural talent and dedicated training to produce optimum performance.

Session on Hydration

The high intensity of rugby can create large sweat losses. If players are very thirsty in the game, or lose more than 2kg body weight in a game, too much fluid has been lost. This severely impairs performance by approximately 10-20%.

This session will show players that they should aim to start exercise well hydrated by drinking water with meals and snacks and sipping on water bottles. Good fluid choices through the day and during the game are imperative.

Individual skills activities (Part two)

  • Tackling
  • Contact

Session on InjuryThere are a few basic things that you can make sure happen immediately after an injury has occurred – this is called the immediate phase.

After this session players will be 100% familiar with these procedures, understand the symptoms and the road to recovery around concussion.

Functional Roles

While the functional roles in the scrum are typically set, other units have roles that can change dynamically.

Session on conditioning

Physical preparation is an essential component of sports performance at every level. To assist players to achieve their optimal performances they should have a basic understanding of how the body functions in terms of physical exercise and the physical requirements of rugby.

After this session an effective fitness training programme should develop the energy systems appropriate for rugby.

Team Skills

Putting it all together – using a game situation rotate teams through for reinforcement of learnings.

Session on Mental Skills

Looking at how thinking affects an individual’s behaviour and performance in training and competition. We focus on teaching practical skills to players to enable them to develop their mental abilities to the same level as their physical abilities.

Through this programme, players will be able to improve their psychological game and hence their overall sports performance. The focus at this level is on goal-setting as a tool to enhance player motivation and performance.
